Another great training ride

I completed another great training ride. Same area, this time I was able to do it almost 10 min faster. Maybe because it wasn't quite as hot. Still I think it is getting easier to do the hills.

This can give you an idea of what the ride looks like.

Training Trip

On this training rout I basically went from the back of Lipoma firs golf course through to gem hights drive to 176th up to meridian then back to Lipoma firs. This rout was short but it had a few good hills for practice. 1500 ft sounds like a lot, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Perfect short rout to get used to climbing hills. The best thing that I have found for training for a ride is to make sure to climb as many hills on the practice runs as possible. Challenge yourself early to make the actual ride easier. You want to have a lot of hills under your belt before you ride 38 miles and come upon a large hill. That way the hill seems more like business as usual, and not a show stopper.

MS ride

On September 10th 2011 I will be doing a ride for MS. I looks like I will be doing the 92 mile circuit. Its go big or go home. Chad Booth and I are riding for team Nintendo, which is cool in itself. Even better, they put forth the entry fee for all their team members. All we have to do is try our hardest to raise money for our ride. That is what this blog is all about helping me train and raise money for the rides I enter.

All the way from Mt. Vernon to Whidbey Island and back

Looks like there is almost a 500 ft climb involved in this ride.

Hauling the Bike

My cousin Chuck had helped me make a rack for the bed of my truck. This rack allows me to attach the body and the front rim of two bikes. It is nice to have the bike not flopping around in the bed of the truck. All I have to do is remove the front rim; attach the bike to the posts on the rack; attach the front rim to the uprights; then Use a strap to cinch down the back tire so that there is no hop. It makes life super easy, and helps me keep the bike in good shape

Bike Trainer

I just got this device about a month ago at a swap meet. It is probably the best purchase I could have made for training for long rides. Around here in Washington there are always days that make it hard for your average bike rider to get out and train. I would like to be the person that gets out and rides every day no matter the weather, but lets face it I'm only an average person. I am envious of those who do go out there and ride even though it is pouring buckets. I am just not one who is willing. Instead now I can ride in the comfort of my own home(plus I can watch a movie while riding 10+ miles).

The only problem is that because there is not hills to climb, or stops to make, it isn't quite as real of training as one may like. I do at least ride for around a half hour at a time. Its funny because I have ridden 70+ miles in one day, but doing 30 min with that trainer kills.

Music will help along the way.

Many things are needed to make a ride go easier. Sometimes you just need music to help you through. Since most rides do not allow headphones(plus it is just not very safe to use them while riding on the street next to cars) I have decided to use this gadget. It is a set of battery powered speakers that I can hook up to my iPhone. I still have not yet figured a way to attach them to the bike, but that will be done before September 10th.

The Beginning near the End

So this is the beginning of my posts near the end of the summer. I know I should have started this earlier, but it just came to me to do this now. I have never been a person to blog, but I have decided that this may help keep me in the game. This may also be a tool to help me raise money for future rides.

Today I am going to dedicate 1hr a day to my exercise trainer for my bike. It is something that I actually picked up at  the swap meet in Tacoma. I have never used one before now, but it seems that it will help me ride on days that I just cannot get outside.

Here is to training! No matter how hard it may be I am going to put my best foot forward.
